Castlemilk Moorits, like most primitive breeds of sheep are extremely intelligent compared to most commercial breeds of sheep. They are excellent mothers and will defend their young tenaciously. They are better controlled using a bucket of feed rather than a dog.
They are long-lived and productive into old age, with records of ewes producing lambs at 14 years of age.
They are extremely resistant to both fly strike and foot rot and although they like some shelter, they happily winter out.
